The conversation surrounding Falkirk’s League Cup defeat at Celtic Park continues after John McGlynn’s team put up a strong fight on Sunday. The Championship side briefly led 2-1 at halftime, surprising many.
Brendan Rodgers accepted responsibility for the lackluster first-half performance after making eight changes to the lineup following Celtic’s midweek Champions League match. However, Celtic eventually displayed their strength and class, rallying to a 5-2 victory.
After the match, Rodgers showed sportsmanship by visiting the Falkirk dressing room, and Falkirk captain Coll Donaldson shared what he said.
Donaldson expressed pride in his team’s effort, stating, “But I was so proud of how the boys stuck to our task.” He noted the respect shown by Rodgers, who remarked on their performance: “He said it was a joy to look at how we play and that we play the same way every week.”
Despite the compliments, Donaldson added, “we were still disappointed with the way that the last 20 minutes went.”
Falkirk certainly earned praise for their spirited performance, effectively pressing Celtic and taking the lead twice.
Yet, Celtic also demonstrated professionalism in securing the win, with Rodgers’ tactical adjustments proving effective.
Adam Idah’s sharpness and Nicolas Kuhn’s contributions were key in turning the game around. This match was a standout moment for Scottish football, deserving recognition for both teams.
