Future Hall of Fame Player Sees Yankees as Landing Spot

The New York Yankees might be a landing spot for a future Hall of Famer.

The New York Yankees are off to one of the best starts in baseball, sitting at 13-6 and atop the American League.
The team could be looking to get even better as they are an early favorite team to bring up in trade discussions.

One player that has recently been brought up is St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly recently mentioned the Yankees as a landing spot for the future Hall of Famer.

Goldschmidt is currently on a losing streak, but he would still be a huge help to almost any contending team. The best argument for adding the 36-year-old to the roster is that he would still be an immediate upgrade over veteran Anthony Rizzo.

Rizzo’s stock price in New York has been steadily declining and shows little sign of resuming its rise. His on-base and slugging percentages dropped to .620, his worst marks since his rookie season with the San Diego Padres.

Goldschmidt was playing at a relatively high level last season at least, and won’t win an MVP award until 2022. History points to the fact that he should be on the rise even if he doesn’t return to being a .300 hitter this season.

Perhaps it’s time for Goldschmidt to create a new environment. A veteran doesn’t have much to gain by playing for a team that isn’t expected to compete in one of baseball’s toughest divisions.

If Goldschmidt wants to get to the World Series, the Yankees seem like a viable option. This would be the final feather in his cap and secure him a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Even if the Yankees don’t attempt to trade for Goldschmidt, it wouldn’t be too surprising to find them searching for a different replacement for Rizzo.
