Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League under manager Arne Slot, starting the season strongly and proving there’s life after Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. With five wins from their first six games, they are serious contenders this year.
Despite Liverpool’s impressive form, Gary Neville believes the title race will ultimately be between Manchester City and Arsenal, the two clubs that have battled for the title over the last two seasons. He has forecasted that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will emerge as champions this season.
Speaking to NBC Sports, Neville stated, “I nominated Arsenal at the start of the season to win the league. I do think they are getting closer. They will win the league this season, not because of what happened in the last week with Rodri. I just feel that this could be one season too far for Manchester City.”
He added, “But look, itโs Pep Guardiola. I think it really seems like he is up for the fight and he is actually taking Mikel Arteta on now in press conferences which is great to see for us.”
Arsenal nearly claimed victory at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season, managing to secure a draw despite being reduced to ten men due to a late goal from John Stones. Over the past few seasons, Arsenal has closed the gap on City, showing they can compete at the highest level.
While Guardiola has one of the best squads in the world, Arteta’s side deserves recognition for their competitiveness. Arsenal has improved defensively this season and added quality to their squad during the summer transfer window. Their main challenge now is managing injuries to key players, but with their return, Arteta will have a fully fit squad for the title challenge.
