The Phoenix Suns kicked off their offseason with a major trade that saw Kevin Durant head to the Houston Rockets. In return, Phoenix landed Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round selections.
This move signals a clear shift into rebuild mode for the Suns, who are now focused on building a team around Devin Booker, especially after failing to reach the playoffs last season.
There are still big decisions ahead for Phoenix, particularly involving Bradley Beal, as well as role players like Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neal.
In recent developments, the Suns have been connected to R.J. Barrett, the former No. 3 overall pick from the Toronto Raptors. According to Bovada, Phoenix currently holds the fourth-best odds (+400) to acquire Barrett in a trade this summer.
Alongside the odds, Bovada also presented a mock trade scenario that would send Grayson Allen to Toronto in exchange for Barrett and Chris Boucher, with the Suns including a pair of future second-round picks (2026 and 2028) to sweeten the deal.
If completed, the trade would bolster Phoenix’s scoring options with Barrett, while also giving their frontcourt a boost with Boucher.
Barrett is coming off an impressive season, averaging 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game, shooting 46.8% from the field and 35.0% from beyond the arc.
Given those numbers, Barrett would bring additional offensive firepower to a Suns roster that now includes Booker and Green. He’d likely fill the small forward spot, though his size makes him more naturally suited to shooting guard — a position Phoenix already has depth in.
Because of that, the Suns may choose to hold off. Instead of pursuing this particular trade, they could explore other options involving Allen that might better fit their current needs.
