The Houston Rockets made two roster adjustments on Sunday. As reported by Shams Charania of ESPN, the Rockets are upgrading two-way guard Nate Williams to a standard NBA contract worth $8.2 million over four years. To make room for Williams, the team is reportedly waiving Cody Zeller, according to Charania.
Zeller, 32, has been in the NBA since the 2013-14 season, with his last appearance in an NBA game being with the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2023-24 season. Though he has been part of both the Atlanta Hawks and Rockets organizations this season, Zeller has yet to play in a game this year.
Williams, 26, went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft but made his debut with the Portland Trail Blazers that season, playing just five games. He joined the Rockets in 2023-24 and has been with the team since. Previously on a two-way contract, Williams is now set to receive a standard contract.
The Rockets appear to be confident in Williams’ potential. He has played in eight games this season, averaging 3.6 points per game. Standing 6’5โณ, Williams adds valuable depth to Houstonโs roster, which has strong postseason aspirations. The team hopes Williams can contribute to their playoff push.
