Sha’Carri Richardson was deeply honored when a track at John Kincaide Stadium was named after her. She expressed her commitment to representing Dallas on the global stage.
The reigning world 100m champion, Richardson, finally received this honor following her impressive performances last season. After winning two golds and a bronze at the World Championships in Budapest, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees decided to name the track the Sha’Carri Richardson Track.
After the ceremony, Richardson shared her appreciation, highlighting her roots in Dallas and the support sheโs received. She stated, “I thank you all for all the support and Iโm proud to have come out of ISD. Iโm proud to have come back and I must say I started my career on this track. To have a track named after me is a huge honour but it also means I have a responsibility to Dallas. I will never ever let people forget where I came from and thatโs Dallas.”
Reflecting on her journey, she said, โThatโs why I would say reflecting on my time competing on this track has literally shown the growth of my journey from where I started to where Iโm going. It has shown that where you start is not where you finish but itโs just about how you apply where you want to go and Iโm honoured.โ
This season was challenging for Richardson, as she missed out on gold in the womenโs 100m at the Paris Olympics, where she was a favorite.
However, she rebounded by winning the womenโs 4x100m relay. At the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels, she finished eighth, but she is now looking ahead to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, where she aims to defend her 100m title.
