Arsenal icon, Ian Wright, asserted that Son Heung-Min’s late failure to score in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur was significant in the Premier League title chase.
Son had an opportunity to equalize at 1-1 after a defensive error left him with a one-on-one opportunity against Stefan Ortega. Nevertheless, the Spurs captain directed his shot directly at Ortega, and shortly after, Haaland scored the second goal from the penalty spot.
Had Tottenham managed to secure points against City, Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Everton on Sunday would have led them to clinch the title for the first time in two decades.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Wright expressed, “Truly, you couldn’t have hoped for a better opportunity. When he was advancing towards goal, I was thinking, ‘Oh my god, this is the moment’.”
โAnd then the more you watch it you can see how far his standing foot was from the ball, he kind of rushed the finish, he didnโt get a good connection.
โHow Pep [Guardiola] was is how I was in my front room! I was thinking, โThat was it right there, that was the title right thereโ.โ
