“I’m Not Leaving” – Ja Morant Silences Trade Rumors with Powerful Commitment to Grizzlies

After the Memphis Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic — acquiring Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks, and a first-round pick swap — many began to question if the franchise was heading into a full rebuild.

Naturally, this fueled speculation around the future of their star guard, Ja Morant.

But Morant wasted no time in silencing the rumors. Taking to X, he confirmed his commitment to the team and stated that he would return next season. He also criticized the media, saying they were “focused on the wrong finals” — referencing the ongoing NBA Finals and suggesting coverage should be there instead of trade gossip.

According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, the Grizzlies have no intention of moving Morant or fellow cornerstone Jaren Jackson Jr. “The Grizzlies are not looking to deal either of their two remaining franchise cornerstones,” Bontemps stated.

He added that the primary reason behind the Bane trade was to free up cap space, enabling Memphis to pursue a contract extension for Jackson.

Despite missing significant time due to injuries and playing only 50 games this past season, Morant still managed to average 23.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game — reinforcing his value to the team’s future.
