San Antonio Could Make Another Splash
The San Antonio Spurs have already made waves this season with the De’Aaron Fox trade, but analysts believe they might not be finished yet. According to Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports, San Antonio could use its wealth of draft assets to pursue a blockbuster deal for Devin Booker, forming a star trio alongside Fox and Victor Wembanyama.
O’Connor suggested a trade scenario that would send Booker to San Antonio in exchange for Devin Vassell, Chris Paul, and multiple draft picks. Given the Spurs’ stockpile of assets, they have the flexibility to “pry the 28-year-old All-Star away from Phoenix.”
The Proposed Trade Package
Under this proposal, the trade would unfold as follows:
San Antonio Spurs receive: Devin Booker
Phoenix Suns receive: Devin Vassell, Chris Paul, 2025 First-Round Pick (via Hawks), 2027 First-Round Pick (via Hawks), 2029 First-Round Pick, 2031 First-Round Pick, 2025 First-Round Pick, and 2027 Second-Round Pick
This deal would provide Phoenix with “four first-round picks and two second-round picks, along with Vassell, a rising two-way star, and Chris Paul, whose expiring contract could free up cap space for the Suns.”
A Championship-Caliber Big Three?
The Spurs are in a unique position. They already have Victor Wembanyama, the most hyped prospect since LeBron James, and they recently added De’Aaron Fox, one of the fastest and most explosive guards in the league. While this duo is already strong, adding Booker could instantly elevate San Antonio into title contention.
A potential Big Three of Fox, Booker, and Wembanyama would be among the most dynamic in the league. Booker, a “three-time All-Star and elite scorer,” has already proven he can play alongside ball-dominant stars like Kevin Durant and Chris Paul. His ability to “score efficiently from all three levels, create his own shot, and handle playmaking duties” makes him an ideal fit with the Spurs’ rising stars.
What This Means for the Suns
Phoenix has built its roster around its Big Three of Booker, Durant, and Bradley Beal, but a lack of depth and financial flexibility has made it difficult to sustain a true contender. Trading Booker for a “package of picks and young talent” could allow them to retool, much like the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets have in recent years.
If the Suns are willing to reset their roster, this move could help them “recoup draft assets lost in past trades while still staying competitive.” Additionally, trading Booker could trigger an even larger rebuild, with reports suggesting that “Kevin Durant could be on the move as well.”
Could This Trade Actually Happen?
While the deal makes sense for the Spurs, the biggest challenge will be “convincing Phoenix to part ways with Booker.” He has been the face of the franchise since 2015, and trading him would signal a complete organizational reset.
However, if the Suns struggle to stay competitive and ownership decides to embrace a rebuild, this Spurs offer could become “too tempting to ignore.” If it happens, San Antonio would instantly become one of the NBA’s most exciting teams, positioning itself as a serious title contender for years to come.
