With just over two days remaining in the transfer window, Crystal Palace remains actively engaged in reshaping their squad. The departure of Joachim Andersen to Fulham for £30 million has left a significant gap in the team’s defense, prompting Director of Football Dougie Freedman to seek a suitable replacement. Among the defenders being considered is Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, although Palace has already made headway in their transfer dealings by agreeing to sign Eddie Nketiah, whose move from Arsenal is valued at £25 million.

In a new development, Ipswich Town is reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Odsonne Edouard. The latest buzz suggests that Ipswich, having seen their efforts to acquire Armando Broja from Chelsea fall through, is now turning its attention towards the French striker. This potential move could mark a dramatic end to Crystal Palace’s summer transfer activity, with Nketiah’s impending arrival likely to trigger further changes within the squad.

Alan Nixon’s Patreon reports that Ipswich Town is interested in bringing Edouard on loan for the 2024/25 season. Crystal Palace is said to be open to such a loan arrangement but only under the condition that a buy option or obligation worth £20 million is included. This would result in a £6 million profit for Palace, given that they originally acquired Edouard from Celtic for £14 million.

The possibility of selling Edouard has been a topic of discussion throughout the summer. With Jean-Philippe Mateta emerging as the preferred choice in the striker role under manager Oliver Glasner, and showing promising form with two goals against Norwich, the pressure on Edouard has increased. Mateta’s recent performance, fueled by the competition from Nketiah, has made Edouard’s position more precarious.

Given the current dynamics, the presence of both Nketiah and Mateta in the squad could create selection challenges for Glasner. This scenario makes Edouard’s departure less of a concern for Crystal Palace. The addition of Nketiah and the solid form of Mateta means that Palace may view the sale of Edouard as an acceptable and potentially profitable move.

Overall, the impending closure of the transfer window is shaping up to be an eventful period for Crystal Palace, with Edouard’s potential loan move to Ipswich Town and the arrival of Nketiah highlighting a period of significant transition for the club.
