The EADT and Ipswich Star have revealed that Ipswich Town has reached an agreement for the transfer of Republic of Ireland international O’Shea for an initial fee of £12 million, with the potential to increase to £15 million through additional clauses. O’Shea, who has earned 26 caps for his national team, has committed to a five-year contract at Portman Road.
At 25 years old, O’Shea has accumulated nearly 100 appearances for West Bromwich Albion before transferring to Burnley for £7 million last season, following their promotion to the Premier League. His arrival at Ipswich follows that of winger Jack Clarke, who completed his £15 million transfer from Sunderland just last night.
O’Shea becomes Ipswich Town’s 11th signing of the summer transfer window. The list of new arrivals includes Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea for £18 million, Ben Johnson from West Ham on a free transfer, Jacob Greaves from Hull City for £15 million, Liam Delap from Manchester City for £15 million, Arijanet Muric from Burnley for £8 million, Conor Townsend from West Brom for £500,000, Sammie Szmodics from Blackburn Rovers for £9 million, Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on loan, Jens Cajuste from Napoli on loan, and Jack Clarke from Sunderland for £15 million.
With O’Shea’s transfer, Ipswich Town’s total expenditure this summer, excluding loan fees, add-ons, and potential future buy clauses, now stands at £92.5 million. Additionally, reports from yesterday indicate that Ipswich is unlikely to secure a loan deal for Chelsea striker Armando Broja due to complications with his medical assessment.
