As Chelsea and Ipswich Town prepare for their upcoming Premier League match at Portman Road, the latest injury news surrounding both teams has been revealed. Enzo Maresca’s side is aiming to recover after failing to secure a win in both of their festive fixtures, while Ipswich faces several key player absences and doubts.
Injury News for Ipswich Town:
Chiedozie Ogbene – Out for the season with an Achilles tear.
George Hirst – Out until January due to injury; Kieran McKenna noted in November, “He’s had another scan, and it wasn’t particularly great news. It’s going to be a period of time, certainly. We’re still not exactly sure, but it’s going to take us through the Christmas period, we think.”
Massimo Luongo – Doubt due to illness. McKenna mentioned last week, “Massimo has been ill over the last week or two, so we’ll have to assess how he is.”
Janoi Donacien – Out with an ankle injury, last update from McKenna in late September stated he is receiving treatment and is looking at next steps.
Axel Tuanzebe – Out long-term with a hamstring injury. McKenna said, “We’ve lost Axel, hamstring, long-term. He’s seeing specialists over the next 24 hours. Hopefully, it won’t need surgery, but it’s a significant injury.”
Chelsea’s Injury Concerns:
Reece James – Out with a thigh injury, expected to return in mid-January. Maresca said, “He will start with us for part of the session. So slowly, slowly, he is moving forward. That doesn’t mean he will be with us on Sunday or next Sunday.”
Wesley Fofana – Out until mid-January. Maresca stated, “Both are still out and will still be out for a long period.”
Benoit Badiashile – Out with the same update as Fofana.
Carney Chukwuemeka – Doubt due to a virus.
Romero Lavia – Doubt, still recovering from a knock. Maresca commented, “Romeo is still recovering. He’s much, much better and out on the pitch and working, but unfortunately, he’s not ready for the next game.”
Additionally, Mudryk is provisionally suspended over an alleged doping offense, and Kellyman remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
