Ipswich Town is preparing for a busy January transfer window, with plans to sign up to five new players, as reported by Sky Sports. The club aims to strengthen several positions, including the right-hand side, strikers, and midfielders.
The team enters the new year on a high, following an impressive 2-0 victory against Chelsea at Portman Road. The win marked Ipswich’s first home victory of the season, and Liam Delap was the standout player, scoring the opening goal from the penalty spot and later assisting Omari Hutchinson for the second goal.
Ipswich head coach Kieran McKenna expressed his pride in the performance, saying, “It was a special night. Itโs the first Premier League win at Portman Road for 22 years, and to do it against a team like Chelsea under the lights, during the Christmas period, makes it pretty special.”
Delap, reflecting on the victory, said, “Itโs a terrific performance from everyone that played. That win has been coming for a long time. It was good to finally get it.”
Looking ahead, McKenna is reportedly targeting several new players, with a focus on strengthening the squad for the second half of the season. Among the targets is Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath, a player Ipswich tried to sign in the summer. Latte Lath, who scored 18 goals last season, has netted nine so far this campaign. West Ham United is also said to be interested in the Ivorian forward.
While Ipswich aims to add new talent, there may also be departures, with players such as Cameron Burgess, Luke Woolfenden, and Massimo Luongo possibly leaving as their contracts near expiration. Additionally, the future of Delap is uncertain, as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Ruben Amorim’s new managerial team have all expressed interest in the striker.
