Everton have emerged as contenders in the pursuit of Napoli midfielder Jens Cajuste, despite the Swedish international reportedly being close to sealing a deal with Ipswich Town, according to a report from Tutto Napoli.

The Italian news source, citing Corriere del Mezzogiorno on 15 August, highlighted that the next few hours will be critical as both clubs make a final push to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

Meanwhile, Brentford, who were also in the race, are now understood to have stepped aside, leaving Everton and Ipswich Town to battle it out.

For Everton, the urgency to sign Cajuste should be fueled by the substantial impact he could have on their midfield. The 25-year-old midfielder, known for his versatility and physicality, brings with him a skill set that could significantly bolster the Toffees’ central midfield options.

Cajuste’s ability to operate effectively as a box-to-box midfielder, as well as his capacity to drop into a more defensive role when required, makes him a highly adaptable asset. His proficiency in winning duels, coupled with his improving technical abilities, ensures he can contribute meaningfully in both defensive and offensive phases of play.

Given Everton’s recent struggles to find players who can seamlessly adapt to various tactical demands under different managers, Cajuste’s flexibility could prove invaluable.

His arrival would not only provide the squad with a dynamic option in midfield but could also offer the tactical versatility that has often been lacking in Everton’s current lineup.

Furthermore, at 25 years old, Cajuste represents a long-term investment, perfectly in line with Everton’s strategy of building a squad that balances youthful potential with seasoned experience.

The acquisition of Cajuste could also mark a significant shift in Everton’s midfield strategy. His presence would inject much-needed energy and tactical flexibility into the team, qualities that could be particularly beneficial as the Toffees look to rejuvenate their squad.

In many ways, Cajuste could be seen as a potential successor to Amadou Onana, bringing similar attributes to the table but with the added benefit of versatility.

In conclusion, securing Jens Cajuste would be a strategic move for Everton, potentially offering the club a robust and adaptable midfield option for the foreseeable future.
