Miami Suspends Jimmy Butler…Again…This Time Indefinitely
More trouble brewing in South Beach.
The Miami Heat have indefinitely suspended six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania on Monday.
The suspension followed Butler’s reaction to the team’s decision to move him to a bench role. In response, he left the team’s Monday morning shootaround, prompting this latest disciplinary action.
This is the third time Miami has suspended Butler this month, resulting in him missing nine of the Heat’s last 12 games. The initial suspension came on Jan. 3, when Butler was sidelined for seven games due to “multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team” after voicing his dissatisfaction with Miami during a press conference.
After a brief return for three games, Butler faced another two-game suspension for missing a team flight to Milwaukee ahead of last Thursday’s matchup against the Bucks. He was set to rejoin the team Monday night against the Orlando Magic before this new suspension took effect.
At 35 years old, Butler has averaged 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 25 games this season. The Heat currently sit at the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 22-22 record.
