The Kansas City Chiefs remain one of the few undefeated teams in the NFL with a 3-0 record, though their victories have been hard-fought, often decided in the final moments.
In Week One, the Ravens nearly tied the game with a touchdown, but a foot was out of bounds. Week Two saw the Chiefs win by a last-second field goal against the Bengals, and last week they benefited from a no-call that helped them against the Falcons.
Despite the team’s success, All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce is having a slow start, recording only eight receptions for 69 yards without any touchdowns. Fans have begun to point fingers at his girlfriend, pop star Taylor Swift, for this slump.
NFL analyst Todd McShay remarked, “Every show I watch… it’s like are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape, that he’s been partying all offseason?”
However, it’s important to note that Kelce participated fully in all mandatory team activities and reported to training camp in shape.
In response to claims of distraction due to his relationship with Swift, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid stated, “I know people are saying that he’s old or that he has distractions, but defenses don’t think that… He’s not distracted.” Reid attributed Kelce’s slow statistics to strong defensive coverage.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes echoed this sentiment, saying, “We’re calling a lot of plays for Travis… he wants to win at the end of the day.”
Fans will be watching closely to see if Kelce can turn his performance around in the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
