On Monday, Andy Reid provided an update on the injury status of two crucial offensive players for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The team is facing several key injuries as they move through the preseason, affecting their game preparations.
One of the major concerns is wide receiver Marquise Brown, who recently suffered a dislocated shoulder. This injury led to Brown being hospitalized, and while the Chiefs are optimistic about his return early in the regular season, his recovery timeline remains uncertain.
The situation played a significant role in Reid’s decision to rest his starters during Thursday night’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears.
Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is also dealing with challenges beyond just physical injuries. As the Chiefs near the end of training camp, Edwards-Helaire has missed several practices due to personal health issues.
He has openly shared his struggles with PTSD and Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, which have complicated his ability to participate fully in the team’s activities.
Andy Reid addressed Edwards-Helaire’s condition, acknowledging the delicate nature of the situation. Reid mentioned that while Edwards-Helaire is expected to return to practice this week, there is still uncertainty about his availability for Week 1 of the regular season.
Reid emphasized the importance of allowing Edwards-Helaire to progress at his own pace, stating, “We’re just playing it by ear & how he feels. … We’re heading in the right direction. It’s a sensitive deal. … We’re just trying to make sure he’s comfortable & can function.”
There is also the possibility that the Chiefs might place Edwards-Helaire on injured reserve (IR) at the start of the season, depending on his recovery progress. Currently, Edwards-Helaire is listed as the No. 2 running back on the Chiefs’ depth chart.
Last season, he appeared in 15 games, starting in three, and accumulated 223 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, and 17 receptions for 188 yards with one receiving touchdown.
As the regular season approaches, Isaiah Pacheco is firmly positioned as the Chiefs’ primary running back. The team’s depth at the running back position also includes Deneric Prince, Carson Steele, Louis Rees-Zammit, Keontay Ingram, and Emani Bailey, all vying for a spot on the final 53-man roster, which must be finalized by August 27.
