The 2025 NBA Trade Deadline has offered plenty of excitement, with the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers being the biggest moment. Yet, even as Thursday evening’s deadline approaches, significant drama continues. On Wednesday, Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler was traded to the Golden State Warriors.
While the Butler trade makes headlines, imagine if Kevin Durant had been traded back to the Warriors. According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, a deal was proposed that would reunite Durant with Golden State, with Butler heading to the Phoenix Suns and Andrew Wiggins going to the Miami Heat.
However, Durant seemingly put an end to the trade, confirming that a return to the Warriors is not in his future.
Rumors have always circulated about a sour ending to Durantโs time with Golden State, particularly tensions between Durant and Warriors star Draymond Green. With Durant blocking this trade, it seems those rumors were more than just speculation. Durant clearly had no interest in going back to the franchise where he won two championships.
Now, Jimmy Butler will try to be the third player in Golden State, hoping to revive the once-dominant dynasty. One thing remains certain: no matter how much Warriors fans might wish for it, a reunion between Durant and Golden State is never going to happen.
“A future reunion with Durant and the Warriors will never be happening. No matter how bad Warriors fans want it.”
