Joe Flacco, now 39 years old, has played for six NFL teams over the past five seasons. Typically, such a resume would belong to a quarterback on the verge of retirement. However, as Joe Flacco has demonstrated in recent years, he is anything but typical.
Last season, after being picked up by the Cleveland Browns in November, Flacco led the team to the playoffs. This offseason, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts, where he again stepped into a starting role after Colts’ quarterback Anthony Richardson suffered an injury.
In the Colts’ recent 37-34 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Flacco threw for 359 yards, completing 33 of 44 passes, and delivered three touchdowns. His performance prompted ESPNโs Mike Greenberg to assert that Flacco is “better than half the starting QBs in the NFL.”
Among those impressed by Flacco’s longevity is future Basketball Hall of Famer Kevin Durant, who summed up Flaccoโs career by tweeting, โPut Flacco anywhere and heโs gonna hoop.โ
Flacco was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens as the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, coming out of the University of Delaware. He spent a decade as the Ravens’ starting quarterback, leading them to a Super Bowl win in 2012.
However, despite Flacco’s recent success, his time as the Colts’ starting QB may be short-lived, as Anthony Richardson is expected to return to the role once he’s healthy.
