Kevin Durant Reportedly Rejected Recent Trade Proposal

The Phoenix Suns are facing a tricky situation as Kevin Durant continues to assert control over his potential future moves.

Recent reports suggest that Durant has no intention of joining the Minnesota Timberwolves. Instead, he’s said to be open to landing with three teams: the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, an San Antonio Spurs.

Fueling the speculation, Hardwood Paroxysm revealed that Durant recently turned down a proposed three-team trade involving the Timberwolves and the Brooklyn Nets.

    > “League sources have said the Nets were brought in as a potential third-team in a deal construct, which would have helped move money and contracts to help both teams reshape their rosters. (No idea what they were getting or sending, but I would speculatively bet Nic Claxton to Phoenix was part of those talks.) But then KD did what it is his right, and sent out word that he doesn’t want to play there,” the outlet said, via NBA Central.

According to @HPbasketball, Minnesota attempted to engineer a three-team deal with Phoenix and Brooklyn to acquire Durant. However, the star forward vetoed the move.

Durant’s disinterest in Minnesota has become clear, and his refusal to join effectively shut down talks that might have significantly altered rosters across multiple teams.

This puts Phoenix in a difficult position. By allowing Durant input on where he’s willing to go, the Suns may have weakened their leverage in trade negotiations. Other teams now understand that Durant won’t approve just any destination, limiting the Suns’ flexibility.

Still a top-tier talent, Durant enters the final year of his contract after posting 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season—solid numbers despite the Suns missing the postseason.

The franchise must now navigate the complex challenge of respecting Durant’s wishes while also ensuring they secure the best possible return in any potential trade.
