As the 2025 NBA Draft approaches, teams across the league are finalizing their plans—while others are actively seeking ways to move up the draft board to secure a future franchise cornerstone.
One such team is the Phoenix Suns, who currently lack a lottery pick after their own selection was sent to the Houston Rockets due to a previous trade. As it stands, Phoenix won’t be on the clock until the 29th pick. Given their disappointing season, the Suns may try to jump into the top 10 to secure a rising star to complement Devin Booker.
With a rebuild centered around Booker expected this offseason, the Suns are reportedly preparing to part ways with both Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal following a playoff miss—their first since the 2019–20 season.
In light of this, Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman proposed a hypothetical trade that would land Phoenix a top-three pick in exchange for Durant. In this scenario, the Suns would send Durant to the Philadelphia 76ers and receive Paul George, the No. 3 overall selection, and a 2030 first-round pick that’s protected within the top three.
Such a deal would put Phoenix in position to pursue elite draft prospects like Ace Bailey or V.J. Edgecombe, while also securing an experienced forward in George to fill Durant’s role.
While George struggled in his debut season with the Sixers—primarily due to injuries—joining forces with Booker in Phoenix could rejuvenate his game.
However, the trade may be too steep for Philadelphia, as it involves giving up both George and a high lottery pick for an aging Durant. This could ultimately lead them to pass on the deal, despite the star power Durant still brings.
