New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga took a significant step in his recovery as he pitched into the fourth inning during his rehab start for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Saturday.

Sidelined since June 12 after straining his right hamstring while covering first base, Senga looked sharp, striking out four and walking two over 3 2/3 innings. He threw 68 pitches, allowing six hits and four runs—three of them earned—against the Hartford Yard Goats.

Following Senga’s injury, the Mets went on a tough stretch, dropping 14 of their next 17 games. However, they’ve bounced back recently, winning four straight, including a pair of victories over the Yankees.

The 2023 All-Star has compiled a 20-10 record with a 2.53 ERA and 281 strikeouts over three seasons in New York. So far this season, Senga is 7-3 through 13 starts, boasting a 1.47 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 73 2/3 innings.

Reports suggest he may rejoin the major league squad just ahead of the All-Star break.
