Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has confirmed that rookie offensive lineman Jordan Morgan will be sidelined for the rest of the 2024 season due to a shoulder injury.
LaFleur shared the news during a podcast interview with Matt Schneidman from The Athletic, stating, “Yeah, he’s done for the year.”
Morgan, who had been struggling with a shoulder issue since training camp, was unable to secure the starting right guard position. The 25th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft aggravated the injury in Week 2, forcing him to miss the following three games. He returned for the Week 9 loss against the Detroit Lions but re-injured his shoulder during a practice on November 14.
The 23-year-old rookie was recently seen with a sling at practice and is currently on injured reserve. LaFleur did not specify whether Morgan would require surgery.
This injury significantly impacts the Packers’ offensive line depth. Morgan had played 186 snaps across six games, with one start. He was considered the team’s best backup interior offensive lineman.
With Morgan out for the season, Andre Dillard, Kadeem Telfort, Travis Glover, and Jacob Monk will have more opportunities to contribute. The Packers have four of their five starting offensive linemen under contract for next season, with center Josh Myers being the only potential departure.
Additionally, Michael Jordan, a former New England Patriots left guard, could be an option for the Packers, as he is currently on the practice squad.
