Lakers’ Center Search in Jeopardy: Top Buyout Target Reportedly Set to Sign Overseas!

The Los Angeles Lakers are once again searching for a center to bolster their frontcourt after the trade for Mark Williams was rescinded. With the buyout market as their next option, one of the top targets, Daniel Theis, may be looking to sign overseas instead.

According to Greek outlet SDNA, AS Monaco is reportedly the frontrunner to land Theis. After being traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the veteran big man was waived by the Thunder and is now a free agent. Theis could be a valuable addition to the Lakers, but Los Angeles might have to convince him to stay in the NBA rather than pursuing an overseas deal.

Theis’ ability to space the floor made him a good fit for the Lakers. While he might not have been the ideal center they envisioned for their playoff run, Theis could have fit well with the team. This season, he averaged 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists for the Pelicans. Although his 3-point shooting has declined, he holds a career average of 32.6% from beyond the arc.

If Theis decides to head overseas, the Lakers will need to turn to other options to strengthen their frontcourt. Currently, the team lacks a starting-caliber center, and without an upgrade, their hopes for a successful playoff run could be at risk. The Lakers will continue to explore the buyout market for a suitable big man to add to the roster.
