8 Offseason Trade Targets the Lakers Must Pursue for a Title Run

The Los Angeles Lakers have re-emerged as championship contenders thanks to the star duo of Luka Doncic and LeBron James. However, recent struggles have highlighted weaknesses in their roster, particularly in the frontcourt and defensive versatility. As the 2025 offseason approaches, the Lakers must address these gaps to maximize their title chances while LeBron nears the end of his career and Luka remains in his prime.

Potential Offseason Targets for the Lakers:

    1. Myles Turner (Indiana Pacers – Sign-and-Trade)

The Lakers would acquire Turner in exchange for Rui Hachimura and a 2031 first-round pick.

Turner, an elite shot-blocker and floor-spacer, would significantly improve the Lakers’ interior defense and shooting.

    2. Zach LaVine (Sacramento Kings)

Lakers would trade Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, and a 2025 second-round pick.

LaVine’s scoring ability could ease the offensive burden on Luka and LeBron, but his contract and injury history pose risks.

    3. Nic Claxton (Brooklyn Nets)

Lakers receive Claxton in exchange for Hachimura, Vincent, and a 2031 first-round pick.

A young, athletic center with strong defensive skills, Claxton would bring much-needed energy to the frontcourt.

    4. Robert Williams (Portland Trail Blazers)Lakers trade Gabe Vincent, Shake Milton, and a 2031 first-round pick.

If healthy, Williams would provide elite rim protection, but his injury concerns make him a gamble.

    5. Clint Capela (Atlanta Hawks – Sign-and-Trade)

Lakers trade Hachimura, Milton, and a 2031 first-round pick swap.

Capela’s rebounding and defensive presence would complement Luka’s playstyle, but his offensive limitations could be an issue.

    6. Nikola Vucevic (Chicago Bulls)

Lakers acquire Vucevic for Hachimura, Milton, and a 2025 second-round pick.

Though not a rim protector, Vucevic offers scoring versatility and strong rebounding.

    7. Walker Kessler & Collin Sexton (Utah Jazz)

Lakers trade Hachimura and rookie Dalton Knecht.

Kessler’s elite shot-blocking and Sexton’s scoring would address two key needs for the Lakers.

    8. Onyeka Okongwu (Atlanta Hawks)

Lakers send Hachimura and a 2031 first-round pick.

Okongwu’s defensive potential makes him a great long-term investment for the Lakers.

With the playoffs approaching, the Lakers must act decisively to strengthen their roster. Whether they prioritize defense, size, or offensive firepower, these moves could determine their championship chances in the Luka Doncic era.
