The Los Angeles Lakers face difficult roster decisions in the coming weeks, particularly regarding their two-way contract players, some of whom have already earned a place in the rotation.
With the postseason approaching, the team must determine whether to upgrade their contracts to full-time NBA deals. According to Lakers insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic, that is exactly what the team plans to do.
Currently, Jordan Goodwin, Trey Jemison III, and Christian Koloko are on two-way contracts. While Goodwin and Jemison III appear most likely to be converted to full-time deals, no final decision has been made yet.
Buha noted that Los Angeles is expected to convert two of these contracts while also releasing multiple veterans. Discussing the situation on his podcast, Buha explained:
“There’s a chance [of all three two-way guys being converted], but realistically, it’s probably not gonna happen just because I think that the only two obvious players to cut on the roster are Cam Reddish and Alex Len.”
He added, “Shake Milton has two more years of a non-guaranteed contract, which could be a valuable trade chip. Markieff Morris is a beloved figure in the locker room. He’s an internal leader; Luka loves him, and LeBron loves him.”
Goodwin has become a crucial player for the Lakers, with head coach JJ Redick highly valuing his role. Given his impact, the team is expected to convert his contract before his eligibility expires.
