The Detroit Lions have secured defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike for another season, signing him to a one-year contract. After struggling with injuries in his first two seasons, Onwuzurike had a strong performance in 2024, which earned him a $5.5 million deal for 2025.

Onwuzurike, who entered the NFL in 2021 after playing college football at Washington, has spent his entire career with Detroit. Last season, he recorded 28 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. With star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson sidelined for most of the season, Onwuzurike stepped up to help fill the gap.
Defense was a major concern for the Lions in 2024, contributing to their playoff loss against the Washington Commanders. Despite earning the NFCโs top seed and securing a first-round bye, Detroit was eliminated in the next round. With Hutchinson returning from injury and Onwuzurike staying on board, the Lions hope to solidify their defense and remain a Super Bowl contender in 2025.
