Paulo Fonseca is on the brink of taking over from Stefano Pioli at AC Milan, sparking intense discussion among fans. Journalist and pundit Andrea Longoni argues that this move would be a regression.
Pioli concluded his coaching tenure with Milan last night and addressed the fans directly during the farewell ceremony afterward. While Milan has a friendly against Roma next week, Daniele Bonera is anticipated to manage the team for that match.
Fonseca is expected to be officially unveiled as Milan’s new manager in early June, a move that has disappointed certain fans. Longoni, in his recent editorial for MilanNews, raised doubts about the club’s direction in choosing a less expensive coach compared to Pioli.
“It’s sad to note that after four consecutive Champions League qualifications and a considerable increase in revenue, Milan will go from a coach with a salary of €4.5m to one who will get €3m, at most €3.5m. So much for the growth path and the much-vaunted desire to win,” he writes.
It’s yet to be confirmed if the Portuguese manager will be selected, although it appears likely. The club will also need reinforcements during the summer transfer window, requiring close collaboration between the new manager and the management team.
