Dallas Mavericks fans are still reeling from the unexpected trade of their former star, Luka Doncic, to the Los Angeles Lakers in a dramatic three-team deal over the weekend, which also involved the Utah Jazz. The move has left many Mavericks supporters struggling to come to terms with the shocking departure.
Luka Doncic has already expressed his gratitude to the city of Dallas and its fans in a heartfelt letter following the trade. In addition, his fiancée, Anamaria Goltes, posted a brief but meaningful message on Instagram Stories: “Thank you,” accompanied by a blue heart emoji.
During his time in Dallas, Doncic and Goltes created many memories, including his engagement and fatherhood in 2023 while still playing for the Mavericks.
Doncic, drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 2018 before being traded to Dallas, spent over six seasons with the Mavericks. He helped lead the team to a Western Conference title in the 2023-24 season and the 2024 NBA Finals. Just months after achieving these milestones and placing third in MVP voting, Doncic was traded to the Lakers alongside veterans Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris. The Mavericks received Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick, while the Jazz added Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.
As Doncic embarks on a new chapter with the Lakers, he and Goltes will continue to create new memories. Despite his remarkable career with Dallas, the 25-year-old still has much ahead of him. Over 422 games with the Mavericks, Doncic averaged 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists.
