Dallas Mavericks fans are protesting outside the American Airlines Center (AAC) this Saturday, marking the team’s first home game since the trade of superstar Luka Dončić.
The protest is set to start at noon before the game against the Houston Rockets. Fans have been vocal in their frustration ever since the news broke late Saturday that 25-year-old Dončić would be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a package including Anthony Davis.
Outside the stadium, fans are chanting slogans like “loyalty,” “sell the team,” and more, with security and barriers set up around the AAC in preparation for the protest.
The protest, titled “Mavs Fans For Luka,” is being held at Victory Plaza with the tagline “Loyalty Never Fades Away,” a phrase etched on the base of Dirk Nowitzki’s statue outside the arena.
Dallas Police are on high alert, urging anyone to report suspicious activity by calling 911, with their priority being to ensure public safety.
The Mavericks will take on the Houston Rockets at 2 p.m.

In a blockbuster move, the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Dončić, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers. In return, the Mavericks received Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 Lakers first-round pick.
Although Davis has not yet played due to an ab injury, he is expected to make his debut with the Mavericks on Saturday. Max Christie has already played in two games for the Mavericks.
Meanwhile, Dončić, who has been sidelined with a calf injury, is not expected to play for the Lakers against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday, though he is expected to make his debut on Monday against the Utah Jazz. Lakers coach JJ Redick stated, “It looks like he is trending toward playing Monday, but we don’t want to rush him back.”
