One of Manchester United’s FA Cup final heroes may be leaving the club, with ongoing discussions reported.
The futures of both the manager and the players are uncertain after an eventful end to the season.
Erik ten Hag isn’t the only one who may have silenced his critics as Manchester United showcased their determination, organization, and resilience against Pep Guardiola’s star-studded City.
Critics may question Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s skills on the ball, but defensively, he remains one of the top one-on-one full-backs in European football.
Despite his defensive prowess, Wan-Bissaka might depart from Manchester United. The club could opt for a more technically gifted, attack-minded player, such as Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
However, selling Wan-Bissaka would mean losing a player with unique defensive qualities, particularly valuable in crucial matches like the recent FA Cup final. Any replacement would likely be a downgrade defensively.
United recently extended Wan-Bissaka’s contract by 12 months, pushing his deal’s expiration to 2025. This extension seems like a temporary fix rather than a long-term solution.
Reports from Italy indicate that Serie A champions Inter Milan have shown interest in Wan-Bissaka and have had discussions with Manchester United.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, both clubs have been negotiating in recent days. United might consider offers around £10 million, a figure that seems low given his contract status. Inter is reportedly ready to offer Wan-Bissaka a three-year contract worth £50,000 per week.
A swap deal might be possible as Inter’s current right-back, Denzel Dumfries, has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Dumfries is reportedly interested in joining United, especially if Ten Hag remains as manager. Given Kieran McKenna’s expected contract renewal at Ipswich Town, Ten Hag’s stay for at least another year seems likely.
“He has improved a lot, as many players have improved during the (2022/23) season,” Ten Hag said last year, Wan-Bissaka one of a number who have played arguably the best football of their United careers under the former Ajax boss.”
“That’s one of the jobs for a manager and the coaching staff, to get that done (improve players). And we are really happy with it, that players are developing.”
“Always the team spirit is the base and if players understand that, if they can set their egos aside, then you will see that the team develops and progresses.”
“And then within the team’s progress, individuals make a lot of progress. And Aaron is definitely one of them.”
