Inter director Beppe Marotta acknowledges that Lautaro Martinez’s salary demand is the main point of contention in contract talks and expresses satisfaction with Oaktree’s involvement with the club.
Marotta had a conversation with DAZN just before the final match of the season against Hellas Verona. Hellas Verona has already ensured their survival, whereas Inter clinched the Serie A title over a month ago.
Discussions are ongoing between Inter, the Serie A champions, and their captain Lautaro Martinez regarding a contract extension, although there are rumors suggesting that the striker’s salary expectations exceed what the club is willing to offer.
Marotta acknowledges ‘problem’ in negotiations over Lautaro Martinez’s contract at Inter
โWhen you negotiate with players, that [the salary] is always the issue,โ Marotta said asย quoted by FcInter1908.
โTalks have not been put on hold, but clearly, we had to slow down a little because bureaucratic aspects are coming from the transition from one owner to another. Indeed, we are confident because the player strongly wants to continue with us and this is a principle that safeguards any possible negotiation.โ
Last week, Lautaro expressed urgency in finalizing a new contract with Inter, where his current contract runs until June 2026.
Meanwhile, Inter has undergone an ownership change from Steven Zhang’s Suning to Oaktree, as the American fund took over following Zhang’s failure to repay a loan of nearly โฌ400 million, including interest.
โSteven [Zhang] has become a passionate fan, and I hope he will follow our adventures,โ said Marotta.
