Olympic 400m silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith has overlooked Quincy Hall as he revealed the athletes he would prefer to compete against in the men’s 300m.
Despite Hall’s victory in the men’s 400m at the Paris Olympic Games making him a strong contender, Hudson-Smith chose to focus on other U.S. competitors, emphasizing that the race would be a U.S. vs Great Britain showdown.
Hudson-Smith expressed his preference for racing against 400m hurdles Olympic champion Rai Benjamin, Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles, and bronze medallist Fred Kerley. He also mentioned that including Letsile Tebogo, the Botswanan youngster who holds the world record over the distance, would be an added bonus.
“Yeah, I’m smoked. Hey, listen, Zharnel is going to get smoked but I want to change it now. I want to do a USA vs Great Britain. So, if anyone’s down for that, I know Fred said he is on it so, I just want to get a British record on the smokes that I know,” Hudson-Smith told the Inside Lane.
“So let’s say, Fred, Noah Lyles, Jai Benjamin and anybody else, you know what I mean. Let’s see USA vs Great Britain and then maybe put Tebogo in there because he is the world record holder as well. You know he’ll bring us a show as well,” he added.
He explained that such a race is high profile and investors will need to put in a lot of money. Hudson-Smith added that he prefers racing in Birmingham but it will be up to the investor or investors to select a suitable venue for the race.
“Let’s make some money man, let’s make some money. Obviously, I’m on Birmingham but whoever is going to pay will select. That’s a world-record race right there,” he added.
