Following the groundbreaking trade that saw star Luka Doncic traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, concerns have arisen within the Mavericks organization about the long-term future of the team in Dallas.
This led to a statement from the Adelson and Dumont families, as reported by Tim Cato of DLLS Sports.
โThe Adelson and Dumont Families have already started and are committed to investing and building in Dallas/Ft. Worth. The families have absolutely no plans to move the team out of North Texas,โ Cato shared.
Some Mavericks fans have embraced a conspiracy theory suggesting that the owners might be interested in relocating the franchise to Las Vegas. Basketball analyst Bill Simmons also weighed in on the theory.
โI love this one that the owners always wanted the Vegas team and their eventual goal is to basically flip franchises, move Dallas to Vegas so they can have their whole casino thing,โ Simmons remarked. โThe expansion team that was going to go to Vegas will be the Dallas team, theyโd pay whatever. The first way to do this was to basically torpedo the Mavericks franchise relationship with their fans by trading Luka Doncic. I have no notes, thatโs one of the best conspiracy theories Iโve ever heard.โ
What’s next for Mavericks following trades
Whether they remain in Dallas or relocate to Las Vegas, the Mavericks are entering a new era of basketball.
Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and Caleb Martin are all newcomers to the Mavericks organization, with Davis being seen as the key player in their pursuit of a championship this season as they aim to return to the NBA Finals for a second consecutive year.
With a 27-25 record, Dallas is currently ranked eighth in the Western Conference, 1.5 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers and two games behind the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Mavericks are gearing up for their next game, hosting the Houston Rockets on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
