The Cavaliers great had to tip his cap to the ‘other’ New York team.

Donovan Mitchell, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ star, is a well-known New York Mets fan, but he had to raise his hat to the New York Yankees after viewing their roster.
Mitchell wrote on social media, “As a Mets fan, this pains me to say lol, but the Yankees lineup 1-5 is outrageous!!”
Despite his hesitant regard for the Yankees, Mitchell is unlikely to flip allegiances anytime soon. His father, Donovan Mitchell Sr., is the Mets’ Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Mitchell Sr. has played professional baseball since 1992. He began as a Minor League player with the Astros before becoming a Minor League instructor and manager in the Mets’ system.
Mitchell Jr. spent a lot of time with his father when he worked in the Mets’ minor league system. While Dad was busy preparing for the game, Junior was always in the clubhouse, making friends with players like Scott Kazmir and Josh Thole. Junior even served as a bat boy for the Kingsport Mets, the club’s Rookie League squad.
Mitchell’s Mets strive to break out of their funk while the Yankees cruise. New York Mets’ shortstop Francisco Lindor (12) returns to the field after flying out with a runner on base to finish the fifth inning against the Kansas City Royals in Citi Field.
After a rough start to the season, the Mets have started to turn things around, winning four of their last five games.
Francisco Lindor has continued to struggle and is in a terrible slump to start the season. It’s clearly been weighing on him, and with that in mind, club owner Steve Cohen advised that supporters give Lindor a standing ovation to let him feel the affection of the fans.
Sure enough, the fans did their part in this game, and Lindor reacted with some poignant remarks following the game.
โI wasn’t expecting that at all. But it definitely felt good. It feels good to be able to come home and feel the love of the fans, when I’m playing well or playing bad. It fills my heart, for sure. At the end of the day, I will always be Francisco Lindor โ on good or bad days. And I will always play as hard as I can and do whatever it takes to help this team win, day in and day out. Everybody that came out โ thank you for the love. It doesn’t go unnoticed. I’m a better player when my heart is at a happy place,โ Lindor said. โAnd shortstop at Citi Field, it’s my happy place.โ
While the Yankees remain the leading MLB club in New York, the Mets are aiming to claim their spot beside the Bronx Bombers.
