The Miami Heat once envisioned former Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier as an ideal backcourt partner for Tyler Herro, but that hasn’t turned out as planned.
Rozier has struggled significantly in his first full season in Miami, leading many to speculate that the front office will make adjustments around Herro this summer. Bleacher Report predicts the Heat could pursue Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin in a trade.
Mathurin, now in his first season as the starting backcourt partner to All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, is thriving in an expanded role. The 22-year-old is currently averaging 16 points and 5.2 rebounds, shooting 46.5% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range. Not only would Mathurin be a clear upgrade over Rozier, but heโs also nearly a decade younger.
As a former All-Rookie selection, Mathurin could contribute immediately to a title-contending team if Miami pursues a superstar, or he could be a key piece in a potential rebuild alongside Herro. The Heatโs long-term success depends on flexibility, and adding young talent often helps maintain that.
Even if the Mathurin-Herro pairing doesn’t work out, Mathurinโs youth ensures he retains trade value, unlike Rozier, whose stock has declined in recent months.
