Dallas Cowboys standout Micah Parsons is under fire from fans after comments he made about the Washington Commanders.
NBA superstar and die-hard Washington fan Kevin Durant made a strong push to lure Parsons to the Commanders during Fanatics Fest, and Parsons’ response didn’t exactly ease Cowboys fans’ concerns.
During an interview with Kay Adams, Durant was asked if he wanted to take the mic and try recruiting Parsons.
“I think Micah will be a Commander at some point in his career,” Durant said. “I’m going to say two years from now.”
Rather than dismissing the idea, Parsons responded with a nod to his former defensive coordinator and current Commanders head coach, Dan Quinn.
“I only rock with Dan Quinn,” Parsons said.
That comment didn’t sit well with some Dallas fans.
“Micah is everything wrong about this generation. Terrible TEAMmate not squashing this immediately as the face of a franchise,” one fan posted.
“Sell out,” another wrote. “Tell your agent to orchestrate a trade to the Commanders so you can rock out with DQ! See how much money you make in endorsements with the Commanders!”
Parsons is in the final year of his rookie contract and is engaged in ongoing negotiations with the Cowboys. With 52.5 sacks in four seasons and consistent Defensive Player of the Year buzz, Parsons is expected to become the league’s highest-paid defender — though the process has dragged.
“It’s going to cost them more,” Parsons said regarding the contract talks.
Some fans interpreted his comments as a strategic message to team owner Jerry Jones.
“Message sent to Jerry, you need to sign Micah to his contract extension,” one fan commented.
Another added: “Leave now. Trade him for as much as you can. Homie says he doesn’t need to be the highest paid and now says it’s just costing them more.”
Parsons Wants Deal Finalized Before Training Camp
Following a 7-10 season, the Cowboys fired head coach Mike McCarthy and brought in Brian Schottenheimer. Parsons has formed a solid bond with Schottenheimer and wants to be present for him — but made it clear his contract needs to be settled first.
“I’m pretty hopeful,” Parsons said. “I’m still hanging tight, I understand it’s up to [Jerry Jones] and he gives the green light on everything, so hopefully something’s done by next month.”
Still, based on the team’s recent contract timelines, a quick resolution isn’t guaranteed. Last year, CeeDee Lamb skipped all of training camp waiting for a deal, and Dak Prescott’s contract wasn’t finalized until just before the season.
Parsons put the pressure on Jones to make it happen.
“He gives the green light, he’s the owner, he’s pretty much what it takes to get anything done anywhere around here, so it’s up to him,” he said. “But like I said I’m going to still keep playing football. I’m going to keep showing up and preparing like any other year.”
The Cowboys are set to begin training camp in Oxnard, California, on July 20.
