Motherwell is reportedly seeking a minimum of £6 million for Lennon Miller amidst interest from Rangers, as stated by James McFadden.
During a live broadcast of Celtic’s victory over Ross County on October 6, McFadden responded to Kris Boyd’s comments about Rangers’ preference for overseas players over established Scottish Premiership talent, emphasizing the fee Boyd suggested.
Rangers have been monitoring the 18-year-old Miller since the start of the season, but no deal has yet been finalized. This has led Derek Ferguson to speculate whether Celtic might be pursuing him discreetly.
Boyd posed the question: “I don’t know, what would Motherwell be looking for? £3million?”
Aiden McGeady concurred, saying, “£3-£4million, yeah.”
However, McFadden dismissed this, asserting, “Come on. Six, start at £6million.”
Miller has already made a noticeable impact this season, contributing four goals and three assists in 12 appearances from midfield. If his performance continues, he may soon exceed Rangers’ budget, and any summer interest could be seen as a missed opportunity.
Ferguson previously suggested that acquiring the young talent and loaning him back to Fir Park for further development would have been a wise move, especially when considering the example of Bailey Rice, who joined Rangers in 2022 and is just two months younger than Miller.
“There’s a reluctance to go and spend proper money on players from other teams [in Scotland].”

Rice has only made three appearances for Rangers, while Miller has already played 50 matches for Motherwell. Connor Barron, who joined on a free transfer from Aberdeen this summer, has become a regular starter, playing 13 times so far. Although Barron is 22, his solid performance suggests Miller could have integrated seamlessly into the team had Rangers pursued a deal earlier.
On Deadline Day, Rangers offered £3.4 million for Nedim Bajrami, who has since impressed, indicating that they might have missed their chance to acquire the Motherwell midfielder.
In other Rangers news, a former player expressed an “unpopular opinion” suggesting that a recent signing is no better than the player he replaced.
