The New York Knicks may be interested in acquiring Moses Brown, the Dallas Mavericks center, who is soon to be available on the market due to financial limitations. The Mavericks are facing a significant frontcourt dilemma, with key players like Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford sidelined due to injuries. To fill the gap, they signed Brown to a 10-day contract, and he has performed impressively, particularly in a recent game against the Charlotte Hornets, where he posted 20 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. However, with his contract nearing its end, Dallas cannot afford to extend it due to salary cap constraints.
According to Ian Begley of SNY, “Dallas canโt sign Moses Brown to a second 10-day deal. The center is among players on the Knicksโ radar for the 15th roster spot, per people familiar with the matter. Brown, who played high school basketball at Archbishop Molloy, spent time with the Westchester Knicks earlier this season.” The Knicks have an open roster spot, are dealing with Mitchell Robinson’s injury, and Ariel Hukporti recently tore his meniscus, which increases the likelihood of them pursuing Brown. Additionally, Brownโs history with the Knicks’ G-League affiliate, where he earned G-League Player of the Month honors in January, could make him an appealing option for the team.
For Dallas, Dwight Powell has recently returned from injury, providing some stability at center, and Kylor Kelley remains on a two-way contract, though the Mavericks haven’t used him much. Several players, such as P.J. Washington, Kessler Edwards, and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, are also capable of playing small-ball center if necessary. However, the Mavericks are hoping for the return of Davis, Lively, and Gafford soon.
