Newcastle United Plot Stunning Summer Move for Liam Delap – Inside the Race for England’s Next Superstar!

Newcastle United are facing a huge financial decision this summer as they chase Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. The 22-year-old, who has emerged as one of England’s hottest young talents, is reportedly demanding between £120,000 and £150,000 per week—figures that would put him among the top earners at St. James’ Park.

Delap, currently on a modest salary at Ipswich, has a £30 million release clause that is widely expected to be activated following Ipswich’s confirmed relegation. This fee was previously set at £40 million but dropped due to their relegation, confirmed after a 3-0 loss to Newcastle last weekend. Manchester City, Delap’s former club, are due 20% of any transfer fee due to a sell-on clause. City also retain a buy-back option, adding further complexity to the situation.

Top Premier League sides including Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle are reportedly circling. But Newcastle face a tricky decision, with Financial Fair Play (PSR) concerns looming large. While clubs like Chelsea and United can easily match Delap’s wage demands, Newcastle must weigh the financial strain of adding another high earner to their payroll, especially after three conservative transfer windows.

Sporting director Paul Mitchell has closely monitored Delap, and there’s belief within his camp that the England U21 forward is ready for a move to one of the Premier League’s elite. “Can Liam play for the biggest clubs in the world? He certainly can. I fully believe that,” said Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna. “He’s already shown the impact he can have at Premier League level.”

Delap has scored double figures for the first time in his career, including key goals against Chelsea, Spurs, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth—where he netted a winner. He’s eyeing a five-year deal that would secure his financial and professional future well into his peak years.

Currently, Newcastle’s top earners include Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, and Anthony Gordon, all on around £150,000 per week. But with the likes of Lloyd Kelly and Matt Targett possibly exiting or reducing wage pressure, there may be room to accommodate Delap—if the Magpies decide the total investment is worth it.

While Newcastle remain silent on the transfer front, it’s clear they’ve been tracking Delap. Whether they meet his demands could define their attacking options for years to come.
