Nijel Amos has expressed deep respect for Noah Lyles, highlighting a quality that he believes sets Lyles apart from Usain Bolt.

According to Amos, Lyles has significantly raised awareness of athletics and shines a spotlight on his competitors, unlike Bolt, who was primarily known for his own track performances.

Amos praised Lyles for revolutionizing the sport, noting that he has brought attention to fellow athletes like Letsile Tebogo and Kishane Thompson. He stated, “He is a great energy to have in the sport… Usain Bolt took the results of the sport to the people, Noah Lyles is taking the sport to the people, the next athlete and everyone around the sport.” He contrasted this with Bolt’s legacy, saying, “Usain Bolt was the fastest man in the world, everyone knew that but who was he racing next to?”

Amos also believes Lyles is a powerful marketing asset at a crucial time for the sport, as emerging athletes strive to reach his level. He noted that the rivalry between Lyles and Tebogo could foster healthy competition in the coming years.

Looking ahead to next season, Amos still considers Lyles the top contender, even with Tebogo’s recent success. “He will still be there… I’d never put money for Noah to win the 100m, for the 200m, I would have put money for him but not 100m,” Amos revealed. He remains hopeful for Lyles’s return to form, anticipating a competitive season ahead.
