Packers’ Playbook: Three Must-Make Offseason Moves!

The Green Bay Packers, guided by general manager Brian Gutekunst, have been active this offseason, acquiring safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs to bolster their roster.

Despite these additions and the NFL Draft’s completion, there’s room for further improvement to solidify the team ahead of training camp.

Firstly, the team’s cornerback position requires attention. Beyond Jaire Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowler limited to seven games in 2023 due to a suspension and injury, the Packers rely on Eric Stokes, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine, and rookie Kalen King.

Stokes has struggled with injuries, Valentine has shown promise as a seventh-round pick, and Ballentine’s experience is limited. Strengthening this position, especially if Alexander faces more absences, is critical.

Secondly, addressing the wide receiver group is essential. Despite drafting six wide receivers since 2022 and seeing productivity from Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks, the Packers’ receiving corps lacks veteran presence.

With injuries a constant risk and the depth chart filled with players entering only their second or third seasons, signing a seasoned wide receiver like Russell Gage or DeAndre Carter could provide stability and mentorship.

Lastly, the offensive line demands attention. With significant changes including David Bakhtiari and Jon Runyan’s departures, rookies Jordan Morgan and Jacob Monk, along with Sean Rhyan, are stepping into crucial roles.

This transition raises questions about protecting quarterback Jordan Love and ensuring the line’s effectiveness.

Adding a versatile, experienced lineman could fortify this crucial unit, helping sustain the Packers’ progress after a surprisingly successful season.

In summary, for the Packers to maintain their upward trajectory, prioritizing the secondary, introducing experienced talent at wide receiver, and reinforcing the offensive line are key off-season strategies.
