Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis led his team to a 30-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans on September 22, 2024, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
During coach Matt LaFleur’s postgame press conference, an alarm sounded, prompting LaFleur to remark, “They told me this city was going to burn if we came in here and won the game, so I guess it is.”
Willis, who was traded to the Packers after the Titans deemed him not fit for a backup role this season, reflected on his win without bitterness, stating, “I think all wins count the same… It was cool to see some of my old guys, but I don’t think it adds or devalues.”
Starting due to Jordan Love’s knee injury, Willis completed 13 of 19 passes for 202 yards, throwing one touchdown and rushing for another. He scored first with a 5-yard run and later connected with running back Emanuel Wilson for a 30-yard touchdown.
LaFleur praised Willis’s remarkable performance, saying, “I just cannot articulate the job that he’s done in the short period of time… What he’s been able to do, I’ve never seen something like this, so hats off to him.”
After spending time with the Titans, where he started three games as a rookie, Willis now has the chance to prove himself. “I think it’s just a different opportunity,” he said, acknowledging his past struggles. “You don’t know when the opportunity will come, but you have to be ready for it if you get it.”
Willis also acknowledged the Packers’ defense, which recorded eight sacks, stating, “Oh, my goodness, they went crazy… If we want to say that, them guys did great. Everybody deserved a game ball.” The Packers’ next game is against the Minnesota Vikings on September 29 at Lambeau Field.
