The Phoenix Suns have had a rough season so far, which could lead to significant roster changes in the offseason.
Initially expected to be among the top teams in the Western Conference, the Suns now find themselves struggling to secure a playoff spot. With a 27-32 record, they currently sit 11th in the standings, trailing the Sacramento Kings by three and a half games for the final Play-In position.
Given their disappointing performance, major roster adjustments are anticipated, potentially involving trades of both Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal to restructure the team around Devin Booker. If the Suns decide to take this approach, they might already have some potential trade targets in mind. According to Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, three players stand out as possible acquisitions: Fred VanVleet, Devin Vassell, and Paul George.
The Houston Rockets have been linked to a possible Durant trade, and in return, the Suns could acquire VanVleet. Bringing him in would significantly strengthen their point guard position and help maintain a competitive team next season.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have also surfaced as a potential destination for Durant. In such a deal, Phoenix might look to add Vassell to their roster. Though injuries and inconsistency have affected his career, Vassell still has plenty of potential for growth, which he could explore further with the Suns.
The third player Buckley highlighted was Paul George. His first season with the Philadelphia 76ers has not gone as planned, making him a trade candidate in the offseason. Acquiring George would require Phoenix to send either Durant or Beal to Philadelphia, a move that carries some risk due to George’s recent decline in performance.
While all three players could be good fits in Phoenix, the Suns might opt to rebuild rather than simply retool their roster this offseason.
