After weeks of trying to secure a Jimmy Butler trade, the Phoenix Suns have been left empty-handed. The six-time All-Star is heading to the Golden State Warriors on a two-year, $121 million deal through the 2026-27 season. This leaves the Suns with few options, especially with Bradley Bealโs contract being nearly impossible to trade. Unless the Suns are willing to move Kevin Durant or Devin Booker, it will be tough to make meaningful changes.
However, Suns General Manager James Jones and the front office canโt afford to stand still. With the NBAโs most expensive roster and a team hovering just above .500, they need to take action. If Phoenix plans to stick with Durant and Booker, they must find ways to improve the supporting cast before the 3 PM deadline on February 6.
While Jimmy Butler and similar stars are off the table, here are a few trade options the Suns should consider. Thanks to their recent deal with Utah, Phoenix now has three movable first-round picks and salaries like Grayson Allen and Jusuf Nurkic that could help facilitate trades. Hope isnโt lost just yet.
1. Kevin Huerter Might Be the Answer for Phoenix
Kevin Huerter, who was acquired by the Chicago Bulls in the trade for Zach LaVine, could be an intriguing option. Although heโs had a rough season, his skill setโespecially as a three-point shooter and off-ball moverโremains valuable. Huerter has been a proven contributor in previous seasons, and a change of scenery could spark a resurgence. Phoenix could package Jusuf Nurkic’s $18.1 million contract with a couple of second-round picks to acquire him.
While Huerterโs shooting has dipped this year, his career 37.5% from three-point range and defensive abilities make him a low-risk, high-reward acquisition for the Suns.
2. Targeting Bogdan Bogdanovic from the Hawks
Bogdan Bogdanovic, who has struggled with injuries and shooting this season, could be another buy-low candidate for Phoenix. The Suns could potentially trade Jusuf Nurkic and a first-round pick for Bogdanovic, offering him a chance to regain his form. Phoenix could benefit from his shooting and playmaking, which would add depth to their roster and provide a useful bench player.
3. Robert Williams III Could Solidify the Sunsโ Frontcourt
The Portland Trail Blazers might be open to moving Robert Williams III, who has fallen out of their plans with Deandre Ayton and Donovan Clingan taking center minutes. Williams, a former Defensive Player of the Year candidate, could be a great fit for Phoenix. While he has dealt with injuries, his athleticism, rim protection, and mobility make him a valuable asset for Phoenixโs defense. At just 27 years old, Williams could still have plenty of potential to offer. Phoenix could use him as an impactful backup or possibly a starting center alongside Ayton.
