The Phoenix Suns have had a disappointing season, which is expected to lead to significant offseason changes. While the team was initially projected to be a top contender in the Western Conference with stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, they currently sit 11th in the standings with a 32-27 record, just one game behind the injury-plagued Dallas Mavericks for the final Play-In spot.
Although the Suns could still secure a Play-In berth, their struggles suggest an early playoff exit. Given their underwhelming performance, major roster and coaching adjustments are anticipated. Most reports have speculated that Phoenix might trade Durant and Beal to rebuild around Booker. However, a recent report by Hoops Wire’s Sam Amico indicates that the Suns may consider firing head coach Mike Budenholzer in an effort to keep Durant and Booker satisfied.
“The Phoenix Suns could fire Mike Budenholzer in the offseason to appease Kevin Durant and Devin Booker,” per @AmicoHoops (@TheDunkCentral, March 17, 2025).
Durant and Booker have reportedly had conflicts with Budenholzer, with Durant being visibly frustrated with him during timeouts. Given the teamโs struggles, Budenholzer’s departure seems likely, but that alone may not be enough to convince Durant to stay in Phoenix. He could still request a trade this summer. If the Suns do make a coaching change to retain Durant, they are also expected to explore trading Beal, though his no-trade clause complicates the situation.
