The Boston Red Sox may have a situation developing with Rafael Devers. While judging him based on one series would be premature, his struggles against the Texas Rangers were concerning. Given his status as one of Major League Baseballโs top hitters in recent years, it was unexpected. However, something seemed off.
Reports indicate that Devers has considered requesting a trade. “Devers, his pride wounded and his trust compromised, made it abundantly clear that he wasn’t at all interested in sacrificing his position at third base to accommodate the Red Sox when first asked about the potential shift in February,” MassLive’s Sean McAdam reported. “According to sources, Devers was angry enough about the situation to consider asking for a trade.”
If his struggles continue and frustration grows, the Red Sox may have little choice but to move him. In that case, their priority must be securing a trade package that benefits them both now and in the future.
Few teams can offer the kind of return Boston would demand, but several are in need of a third baseman. One surprising possibility is the New York Yankees. A trade between these longtime rivals would be shocking, yet not impossible. If New York is willing to part with top players, Devers could be a perfect fit in pinstripes.
