An expert has floated the idea that Sunderland could end up landing a veteran forward who once starred for both Manchester City and Liverpool.
As transfer speculation continues to build around the Black Cats, a new claim suggests they could make a bold move for an experienced Premier League attacker. While Sunderland have mostly been linked with younger prospects so far—like Nantes’ 22-year-old striker Matthis Abline and Dynamo Kyiv’s Vladyslav Vanat (23)—competition for those targets remains fierce.
But now, the Wearside club is being mentioned in connection with a player who brings top-tier pedigree.
Sterling to Sunderland? Former CEO Thinks It’s Possible
Keith Wyness, former Everton CEO, has suggested that Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling may have to “settle” for a switch to a newly promoted Premier League side, naming Sunderland among the possibilities.
Given Sterling’s uncertain role at Chelsea and underwhelming stint on loan at Arsenal last season, Wyness believes his options are limited.
> “I think it’s going to be a big problem to move him on. I think you’re really going to be restricted, in my opinion, to the three clubs coming up. Leeds, Burnley, Sunderland. I think that’s where he might find a space,”

Sterling, once valued at €160 million during his peak years at Manchester City in 2019, began his senior career at Liverpool before making a €63.7 million move to the Etihad in 2015. Though he remains under contract at Chelsea until June 2027, his future at Stamford Bridge looks uncertain.
