Reece James took to Instagram to celebrate Chelsea’s hard-earned 2-1 victory over Brentford on Sunday night. Goals from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson helped the Blues secure all three points, bringing them within two points of Premier League leaders Liverpool. Despite Liverpool having a game in hand, the win highlighted the impressive work Enzo Maresca is doing in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
James, 25, has only appeared four times in the Premier League this season due to a hamstring injury sustained in early November. However, his support for the team’s strong start to the season reflects the positive atmosphere Maresca has fostered since taking over from Mauricio Pochettino this summer.
After the win, James shared a post on Instagram, captioning it “Brick by brick,” reflecting the team’s steady progress.
In an update on James’ injury last month, Maresca explained, “We have just one injured player and that’s Reece [James] who unfortunately felt something small in training two days ago and we don’t want to take a risk for the weekend. It’s a hamstring, muscular problem. We will see, we don’t know for how long, for sure [we want him fit for longer]. At the moment it is not happening, but we hope it will happen soon.”
Maresca added, “He is out this weekend but, hopefully, he can be back soon. It’s probably difficult that he can be available for the Conference League [next Thursday], but hopefully soon.”
Chelsea’s next Premier League match is a visit to Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
