Newcastle United and AC Milan have developed a strong connection in recent years.
Both clubs competed for Sven Botman’s signature before he joined Newcastle, and the following year, the Magpies acquired Sandro Tonali from Milan.
This summer, discussions took place regarding centre-back Malick Thiaw, but Newcastle shifted focus to Marc Guehi. They also monitored England’s Fikayo Tomori, another Milan player, but ultimately made no signings.
Currently, reports indicate that AC Milan is interested in a Newcastle defender ahead of the January transfer window. TeamTalk mentions that AC Milan is aware of Kieran Trippier’s situation at Newcastle, as the former England international seeks more regular first-team action and aims to distance himself from recent events at the club.
Trippier was targeted by Bayern Munich last January and had interest from several Turkish clubs last month, but he remains with Newcastle for now.
Eddie Howe has expressed a desire to keep Trippier, who started against Fulham on Saturday. The hope is that if AC Milan approaches Trippier, Newcastle can negotiate a deal that brings Malick Thiaw in exchange.
Newcastle is still in need of a central defender, and since they spent considerable time on Guehi over the summer, revisiting Thiaw seems like a logical move.
